Sunset Park is a thriving community located in the borough of Brooklyn in New York. Sunset Park lies between Bay Ridge and Gowanus, stretching from 15th Street to 65th Street from 9th Avenue to New York Harbor. It is home to about 150,000 residents and is home to a diverse population as well as shops, restaurants, churches and temples, and cultural events and activities.
Formerly one of the epicenters of the shipping and manufacturing industry on the East Coast, Sunset Park is an interesting neighborhood full of row houses, a variety of businesses, the 25-acre park for which it was named, and is close to the waterfront. People flocked to the area in the early 1900s largely for work in the shipyards, piers, and manufacturing, and the availability of so many jobs attracted a wide variety of immigrant families.
Sunset Park’s biggest attraction is its namesake park, which offers gorgeous views of the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan skyline, Staten Island, and New Jersey. This park is 25 acres and is a favorite among the locals, with its large playground, public pool, ball courts and more.
The community has a long and rich history and is home to Green-Wood Cemetery, which is a beautiful landmark landscape located in the heart of the neighborhood. Its four ponds, rolling hills, enormous trees, and flower gardens attract visitors from all over the city.
If you enjoy Latin American and Asian cuisine, you will love eating out in Sunset Park. There are numerous inexpensive taquerias, Chinese restaurants, and Vietnamese sandwich shops. There’s also interesting nightlife if you're looking to go out on the town.
There are also plenty of options for shopping in Sunset Park. Fifth Avenue is lined with Latin American markets, grocery stores and more, and Eighth Avenue is the hub of Brooklyn’s Chinatown. Stock up on specialty Asian foods, ingredients and novelties like paper lanterns while in Sunset Park.
