Salsa dancing, exotic mixed drinks and more.

Sunset Park is a vibrant community that offers exciting nightlife and a variety of interesting things to do day or night. If your idea of a fun night out includes eating some delicious ethnic food and then maybe roaming from one pub or nightclub to another, you will have a great time in Sunset Park.

Grab some dinner at one of the many Mexican, Chinese or Vietnamese restaurants in the area, or try something new like Malaysian, Russian or Peruvian cuisine. Then head out for an evening of salsa dancing, or if you enjoy watching more than doing, plan to attend one of the many performances by professional salsa dancers in the area’s studios and clubs.

If you like modern décor and want to have an interesting beverage with your meal, you might want to try Kakala Café on Eighth Avenue. It offers Chinese cuisine and an impressive daiquiri selection with flavors ranging from sesame to yin yang. If you are in the mood for a relaxed neighborhood bar try Soccer Tavern on Eighth Avenue, or Irish Haven on Fourth Avenue and 58th Street. Irish Haven is a great spot for St. Patrick’s Day, and some claim that parts of the movie “The Departed” were filmed there. Feeney’s is another popular Irish pub in the neighborhood.

Other popular spots include Brooklyn’s Tiki Bar on 4th Avenue, Feeney’s on Fifth Avenue, or the 8th Avenue Billiard Hall for pool and billiards enthusiasts. For karaoke you might want to head to DC KTV, and for sports bars try San Lucas on 7th Avenue. Many of the neighborhood hangouts offer DJs, dance floors, and outdoor space.

If the bar scene is not your thing, there’s a great bowling alley in Sunset Park. If you happen to be in the area at the right time, there are lots of exciting activities during Chinese New Year, which is typically around the beginning of February. There is a parade organized by the Brooklyn Chinese-American Association, restaurants offer special menus, and the whole neighborhood is full of good cheer.

Sunset Park is a great place to be a college student, and nearby Touro College offers a wide variety of degree programs from Associate’s to Doctoral degrees. Touro College is a Jewish-sponsored independent institution of higher and professional education and has about 17,000 students in attendance.

The College was established primarily to enrich the Jewish heritage, and to serve the larger American community. Touro students can pursue degrees in Business Management and Administration (Accounting, Finance, Office Technology, Marketing) and Computer Science (Information Systems, Desktop and Web Publishing), and Human Services (Addiction Counseling, Adult and Family Counseling, Child and Youth Administration, Gerontological Services, Developmental Disabilities, and Human Services Administration). Touro College also offers an education program for aspiring teachers, and online programs in education and psychology and other disciplines.

Touro College also has campuses in other locations around the world, making it easy to study abroad while attending college. Campuses are located in Jerusalem, Moscow, Berlin and France.

What makes the location of Touro College ideal is the diversity of Sunset Park, the availability of inexpensive and delicious ethnic foods 24-hours a day, and easy access to public transportation. It also helps that there is affordable housing and plenty of jobs for those who need to work while pursuing their degree. The various parks and Green-Wood Cemetery provide peaceful outdoor spaces where students can study, socialize, and attend free events such as concerts and festivals.

Students living in Sunset Park will enjoy the community’s nightlife, from the many nightclubs and studios offering salsa lessons and performances to neighborhood pubs with pool tables, darts and other games. And the proximity to the city makes it easy to attend special concerts and events, visit museums and conduct research and more.

If you are considering relocating and you are interested in taking some extra classes, or you have a teenager in the family who will head off to college soon, Sunset Park and Touro College might be the perfect combination for you. Located near the waterfront in Brooklyn, packed with delicious ethnic restaurants, markets and shops, and offering a number of parks and interesting things to see and do, Sunset Park is a great place to live whether you are a traditional college student, a seasoned professional returning to school or going to college for the first time, or just someone looking to continue their education at a leisurely pace.

Visit the site where the Revolutionary War began.

Green-Wood Cemetery is worth visiting for a number of reasons, but it’s a historical landmark partly because the first skirmish in the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Brooklyn, took place on its grounds.

The Battle of Brooklyn was fought in August of 1776 and was waged immediately following the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Each year this battle is reenacted by history enthusiasts at Green-Wood Cemetery to commemorate the efforts of the forefathers of the United States.

The commemoration ceremonies, trolley tours and other events are free, making it a fun and inexpensive way to spend a summer day with a group of friends or family. The event is sponsored by the Green-Wood Historic Fund.

The annual celebration usually includes Revolutionary War re-enactors who relive a portion of the Battle of Brooklyn in Green-Wood’s Meadow and the surrounding area near Green- Wood’s main entrance. Additionally, the Green-Wood Historic Fund and United States Merchant Marine Academy sponsor the Annual Battle of Brooklyn Parade. And finally, there’s the Battle of Brooklyn Commemorative Ceremony that honors the Patriots who fought the first battle of our new nation on this sacred ground 235 years ago.

The Battle of Brooklyn Day is an entertaining way to learn about this historic battle and site. History literally comes alive with re-enactments, and kids will love the elaborate costumes, music and parade.

Green-Wood Cemetery is full of hills, valleys, glacial ponds and paths, and is home to one of the largest outdoor collections of 19th- and 20th-century statuary and mausoleums. It’s also the final resting place for 560,000 individuals, some who are well-known, and is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours.

Other activities that take place at Green-Wood include an annual Memorial Day concert, which is free, and a variety of other concerts as well as educational activities.

Whether you’re feeling adventurous or not, you’ll love eating in Sunset Park

Dining out in Sunset Park can be an adventure. If you enjoy ethnic foods, you will love the restaurant selection in this dynamic community. According to a popular review site, the top-rated restaurants are Mexican, Vietnamese, pizza, and a deli, so if you are looking for an expensive and delicious meal in Sunset Park, you might have to settle for cheap and delicious instead.

With the community’s variety of Latinos, it’s no wonder Mexican food is some of the top-rated. Sunset Park is home to people from all over Latin America and is known as Little Latin America. Countries represented include Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Ecuador, El Salvador, Peru and Columbia, among others.

Each of these countries has its own distinct palette of flavors, and you are sure to have an amazing culinary experience if you enjoy the complex and spicy taste of Latin American food.

Asia is also well-represented in Sunset Park, with Cantonese, Fazhou, people from the Zhejiang Province, Vietnam and others. You will find restaurants, and grocers, representing each of these distinct ethnic groups in Sunset Park.

Pizza is also held to very high standards in Sunset Park. You will love the many pizza joints offering pie by the slice, and in such enormous slices that they have to be folded in half just to fit in your hand. Delis and bagels are additional culinary realms that the people of Brooklyn and Sunset Park take very seriously. Any deli or bagel shop that fails to meet the standards of borough residents is sure to fail, and you will find a number of successful shops in Sunset Park where sandwiches are fresh and made to order, and bagels have the requisite firmness and chewiness that New Yorkers have perfected over decades.

Dining out is easy in Sunset Park, even if you aren’t a big fan of ethnic foods. No matter what you are in the mood for, you are sure to find the perfect place to eat among so much culinary diversity.
