Sunset Park is a desirable neighborhood in Brooklyn that’s popular with entrepreneurs, commuters and families in search of affordable real estate. Its ethnically diverse population of 150,000 residents creates an exciting culture full of delicious foods, interesting shops, and interesting cultural events and celebrations.
The community saw its first boom as a result of the shipping and manufacturing industries and an influx of immigrants in search of work in the early 1900s. After World War II the area saw a decline, but was then revitalized in the 1980s and 90s as new waves of Asian and Latino people made Sunset Park their home, establishing businesses and restoring houses and apartment buildings.
Sunset Park is home to a 25-acre green belt located in the heart of the city, also named Sunset Park, which is much used and enjoyed by the locals. It offers a 1930s art deco swimming pool for public use as well as a recreation center, ball courts and more. The park offers tremendous views and is also the location of a memorial commemorating the 9/11 attacks, which were visible from the park.
The Green-Wood Cemetery, also located in Sunset Park, is one of the most historic landmarks in Brooklyn. Its peaceful lawns and beautiful landscaping features attract visitors from all over the city, and various events, concerts, war re-enactments and other activities are held there each year.
Sunset Park also offers much by the way of shopping, especially if you enjoy Asian or Latin American cuisine and are in search of hard-to-find specialty food items. There are also hundreds of ethnic restaurants, from Indian to Malaysian to Russian, Mexican, Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Spanish and Italian.
Sunset Park is a diverse community offering good schools, competitive real estate, delicious food and a variety of interesting things to see and do.
